Hospital Development and Investment
Before entering politics I spent the best part of a decade working as an NHS doctor in A&E and on national projects aimed at improving our NHS. I was also able to volunteer on the front line during the pandemic. I want to use my first-hand experience to improve the NHS for all of us.
I know that the NHS has been under a lot of pressure. We have made some big changes - the first-ever workforce plan, more than 40,000 new doctors, more than 50,000 new nurses and funding increased by more than 30% in real terms since 2010. Though I know staff on the front line don't always feel it, as demand keeps rising.
But Labour run the NHS in Wales where waiting times are even worse and it's budget has been cut. Labour will freeze plans to invest in our local hospitals. The Conquest & Eastbourne are due to receive major investment, which will bring together plans to try and address current issues and deliver a modern, high-tech and safe service for everybody. I also will be in full support of plans to build a new mental health hospital in Bexhill. I want to drive forward that investment, so our staff are working in first-class facilities and not working out of buildings which are not fit for purpose.
Our plan to invest in our NHS will see a huge increase in nurses and doctors, and millions more dental appointments. I will always continue to try and get the best out of the NHS for all of us.
